Our Rain Gauge
A very simple but important tool for farmers. It takes the guesswork out of how much rain did we really get.
Answer- not enough. A half inch from Friday to Saturday night. The first rain in weeks. It's been so hot and dry it amazing anything other than weeds is actually growing .
We've been harvesting strawberries, lettuce, kale, zucchini, kohlrabi, peas, beets and more. Size and productivity have suffered but flavour hasn't. Counting our blessings we haven't been flooded out, crops damaged by hail or destroyed by the storms that some areas have experienced.
