It has been almost two months since the East Gwillimbury farmers market opened up at its new location and, for many involved, it has been a success.

I just think it's fabulous," Councillor Marlene Johnston said. "People are supporting it, we're overwhelmed with the support. And we, of course, always welcome new customers.

This week's theme was the '50s and featured entertainment from Dave Collinson, an Elvis tribute artist. He sang several classic Elvis songs as shoppers browsed the booths and vendors.

Leslie Forsythe from Forsythe Family Farms stood behind a table bursting with fresh produce such as strawberries and sweet peas that tempted customers as they passed by.

She said the market is a good way to deliver fresh produce directly to those who live in more urban areas.

"Not everybody can come to the farm," she said.

The market opened May 1 and runs every Thursday from 3 until 8 p.m. until October 9. It is at the Lowe's parking lot, on the corner of Yonge Street and Green Lane.
